Foxface was, one again, bored.
There was nothing on TV, which drove her to almost run her nails down the walls. Music blared in her ears though her headphones as she stared longingly at her master, who was too focused on her computer to notice the puppy dog eyes.
Frustrated, she rolled into a standing position and pulled on her roller skates. They were white with four purple wheels, they were meant for a child but were the only pair that fit her tiny feet. She liked the color at least. She opened the window, judging the distance to the ground then leaping out to land on the balcony below. Another leap and she was on the ground
She rolled around the block a few times, looking for something to do, but there was hardly any signs of life in the ruins. Not until she heard the train, her head snapping up and she propels herself forward. She barely made it onto the train, that was of course empty. She often wonders why it even bothers to come through here. A half hour ride later and she was in the city, ignoring the strange looks given to the girl wearing a fox skull over her face.
She sees a sign reading "GARDEN CENTRAL". Oh yeah, there was a pretty garden courtyard around here. She was never one to appreciate nature, but it gave her something to do at least.

It was in the garden that Holly met her first stranger in a long, long time. Holly didn't watch people. They watched her. She was a star, and if you're looking from the middle of the city, there are hardly any stars to speak of. She stood on a pedestal in line at the grocery, but she wouldn't climb down if she could. From the heights, she could tell. She could see all the people, and she knew that out of fifteen, twenty people, there were only two or three real people. The rest are copies, or copies of the copies. It wasn't their fault. Everyone assumes they are a real human being, and who could blame them? No one wants to believe they're just a copy of a copy of a copy. So Holly comes to the Garden to get away from the copies, because it can be overwhelming, floating bright in a sea of sameness.
And she walks the paths through winding trees, because sometimes it's better to be alone in artificially planted greenery than it is to be alone in slick apholstery and brightly lit screens. It's nice to feel the give of grass beneath her feet, compared to unyielding concrete. She steps lightly, pressing down the blades of grass, and leaving a broken trail behind her. She relishes the power. She does not often cross people in groups, listening carefully and avoiding heavy noises. She wonders how many bodies are buried beneath her feet. She wonders about them, the corpses. Did they die by their own hand? Starvation? Drowning? Consumption? She does not have to wonder if it matters. The beauty of dying wasn't in being dead, but in the death.
She turns a corner thoughtlessly, and finds herself very close to a mask of bone, but, unlike most people or copies, the mask isn't covered in skin. Holly has come across a stranger, very likely a dangerous one. She smiles lightly, eyes widening. She tilts her head back, if only slightly.
"Hello."

From around a tree, Foxface spotted a couple sitting close on a bench, their foreheads pressed together with smiles on their faces. Foxface wrinkled her nose at them from beneath her mask, but at the same time felt a pang of jealously that she quickly pushed away.
Back in her world, the Gods loved as much as one breathes. Relationships were seen as a human custom, one that was unnecessary as they were immortal. Many Gods had many lovers, gaining and dropping them almost constantly.
Don't even get started on Zeus.
Foxface always stayed away from these things, seeing the trouble that often arose from jealous spouses. Maybe it was her disinterest that attracted Love herself.
In her world, Love came in the form of a blind girl, one who Foxface had been proud to call her own. They kept quiet, however, because a Death God and one with a status such as the God of Love would be very much questioned. Maybe that's why it had been so hard to leave, the day she was banished she looked out among the crowd, spotting the blind girl desperately reaching out through the crowd just as the ground opened up beneath her...
She spun around with a huff, wondering why she had come here again. That was when she had come face to face with the next one to pull at her already locked up heart.
Her hair was long, blonde, all too similar to the girl she had left behind, although this time she had to look up quite a ways to meet her face, hidden beneath a layer of makeup. Her hair glowed in the sun filtering through the trees, her blue eyes wide and glittering beneath dark lashes. The whole world seemed to stop then, making even a God loose her sanity.
The girl seemed just as taken aback, mouthing out a hello to which Foxface jolted back and turned bright red beneath her mask.
Were humans even allowed to be this beautiful!?
